Which sources do we use?
We use primary sources wherever they exist:
- The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) for race conditions, prize money, golden tickets, race-day times and official news.
- Racing Victoria for the order of entry, acceptances, veterinary inspections and stewards' decisions.
- Official results for finishing orders, margins and dividends.
- Bookmakers' published markets for odds, always named and time-stamped.
- Reputable racing media for quotes and reports, named in the text when used.
How do we date facts?
Every page shows the date it was last updated, and time-sensitive facts carry their own time stamp. Odds always show the bookmaker and the time we checked. In Cup week, we update the field, order of entry and vet status as each official release is published.
Who checks each page?
Every page is written by our editor-in-chief, Alexander Korsager, and checked by a second person before publication. Dr. Divesh Garg, a mathematician, checks the odds, probability and payout calculations on our betting pages. Mark D'Andrea, a senior regulatory consultant, checks race facts, betting rules and safer gambling information on the rest of the site. The byline on each page names both people.
How do we write tips?
Our tips are opinions based on form, weights, track conditions and long-run race trends. We explain the reasons for every selection and the risks against it. Tips are never a promise of a result, and we do not write tips to suit any commercial partner.
How do we handle conflicting sources?
When two sources disagree, we use the primary source. If there is no primary source, we leave the figure out or show both versions and say they differ. For example, historical barrier numbers differ between some published lists, so we only publish the ones where sources agree.
How do we correct mistakes?
We correct confirmed mistakes as soon as we can, and during Cup week on the day we are told. Significant corrections, such as a wrong result or a wrong runner, are noted on the page.
How do we treat responsible gambling?
Every page about betting includes responsible gambling information and links to free help. We do not encourage anyone to bet more than they can afford, chase losses or bet when under 18.
